I have seen many movies over my life, from Jurassic Park to Lord of the Rings. From movies like The Pianist to Finding Nemo, I have enjoyed many genres and movies from many countries too, such as Der Untergang (Germany) and Ran (Japan). But the best movie I have ever seen has to be something that hits closer to home for me.
我看过很多电影，比如《侏罗纪公园》到《指环王》。当然也喜欢各个国家各种不同风格的电影，比如《帝国的毁灭》(德国的)。但是，我最喜欢的是一部美国电影。

“Once Upon a Time in America” is perhaps the best movie I have ever seen. It is a story about friendship, betrayal, delusions of grandeur, crime, and failing relationships. But overall, it is about the decline of the American dream.

Directed by Sergio Leone (an Italian director), it stars Robert DeNiro (as Noodles) and James Woods (as Max), as two friends in a young Jewish immigrant neighborhood in New York. The movie is told in three parts, the first part focusing on their childhood in the Bronx, growing up in a tough Jewish immigrant neighborhood during the 1920s, the second part focusing on their lives as successful gangsters in the 1930s, and the last part focusing on a reunion in the 1960’s. Each part of the movie is tragic, yet meaningful to the climax of the movie, where Robert DeNiro’s character is given a choice to either revenge the wrong things that happened to him, or accept his faults and his own mistakes. At about 4 hours in length, it was able to grip me the whole time.
