I remember when I first came to China, I walked around at night and was amazed to see that out in public, in a parking lot, there was a group of old ladies dancing in unison (dancing together). I was not expecting this, and I found it very interesting that elderly people were out and about. Even in the mornings, I have seen elderly people practicing martial arts, tai chi, or even just exercising. From what I have seen, many elderly people in China, no matter how old, also seem to live with their families as well, something that is very rare in the U.S. these days.

The elderly in the U.S. typically don't go out into the parking lots to dance. In fact, I think elderly people in the U.S. are much lazier. On an average day, an elderly person in the U.S. will probably wake up early, and maybe spend a lot of the day watching tv. However, some elderly like to take cruises (if they have the money) to different places in Europe and the Caribbean. Other elderly will end up in nursing homes, where activities are organized for them. Maybe they will go to the park and feed birds or play chess (actually very similar to China!) . But dancing in a parking lot? Never!

These days, I don't see very many dancing grannies here, only outside of downtown. I miss seeing them though, it is really unique! What do you think?
