词根背景知识补充：很多结尾带有-ivorous的词都指代的是捕食者所食食物的种类。比如frugivorous（fruit-eating，以果实为食的），granivorous这个就不难猜了吧，grain-eating。

1. carnivorous [kɑ:'nivərəs]
定义: meat-eating or flesh-eating
例句: The dragonfly lives up to its name by being a carnivorous terror that can pluck（拽） its prey（被捕食的动物） out of midair at speeds up to 30 miles per hour.
